PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Move with momentum

Project failure

Occurs when projects go over budget, have a schedule overrun, or fail to meet key objectives.

"It is not necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory."

The Five Stages of Project Management

At The Eighth Mile Consulting, we are fortunate to have access to a unique pool of extremely high performing leaders to form our staff base.

We therefore are able to offer our clients to engage our services at any of the five points of Project Management, enabling them to surge when necessary and ensure the project reaches completion, on time and on budget.

   Conception and Initiation

Where ideas are born. Identify the project's purpose, scope, and feasibility. Stakeholders are identified, and a project charter is created, outlining the project's objectives, stakeholders, deliverables, and key success factors.

   Definition and Planning

Development of a comprehensive project plan that details tasks, resources, timelines, and budget. Build risk assessment, and creation of communication and quality management plans. The goal is to anticipate as much as possible to ensure smooth project execution.

   Launch and Execution

Plans turn into actions. Resources are mobilized, tasks are assigned and executed, and progress is monitored closely. The team starts producing the deliverables of the project while maintaining communication and managing quality and risks.

   Performance and Control

Measure what matters. Running parallel to execution, tracking, reviewing, and regulating the progress and performance of the project. This ensures the project remains on track and aligns with the project management plan. Any deviations are addressed promptly to keep the project within scope, schedule, and budget.

   Project Close

Delivery of the final product or service, releasing project resources, and assessing overall project performance. Lessons learned are documented for future projects, and the team's efforts are recognized and celebrated.

Project Management Services

Below is a non-exhaustive list of the services we can offer in the project management space

  • Scope Statement – A document that clearly defines the business need, benefits of the project, objectives, deliverables, and key milestones.

  • Work Breakdown Schedule (WBS) – A visual representation that breaks down the scope of the project into manageable sections for the team.

  • Communication Plan – A plan that develops the proper messaging around the project and create a schedule of when to communicate with team members based on deliverables and milestones.

  • Risk Management Plan – Identify all foreseeable risks. Time spent in reconnaissance is seldom wasted. The Eighth Mile Consulting seek to identify any areas that you are exposed to a single point of failure and provide prepared workarounds. This sets up an environment for success.

  • Status and Tracking – Recording and measuring what stages the project is at and what activities need to be expedited to keep the project on track to be delivered on time.

  • Key Performance Indicators – Using both lead and lag indicators to provide detailed activity plans for each individual which can provide factual information on what changes need to be implemented to achieve the desired outcomes.

  • Quality Deliverables – Reviewing deliverables to ensure that both quantity and quality are being met via a rigorous quality control process.

  • Forecasts – Using the above mentioned tracking, measurements and quality control, forecasts and reports are delivered to ensure accurate decision making.

  • Effort and Cost Tracking – Clear dashboards that can offer predictable forecasts on activity timing, costs and outcomes.

  • Post Mortem – Review of the overall project for continuous improvement measures and recommendations.

  • Reporting– Ongoing reporting on projects after completion at set intervals to identify any further requirements to ensure continued success.

"The Eighth Mile Team are fantastic, intelligent and highly motivated consultants who accept direction and use their initiative to unpack complex issues and deconstruct wicked problems to get to a very good outcome for the client. Highly recommended."
